On July 16, 2024, in Ho Chi Minh City, The University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) hosted a special discussion session on "Sustainability," part of the RTD 2024 conference "Fostering Sustainability." The symposium underscored the vital role of universities and stakeholders in achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Moderated by Assoc. Prof. Bui Quang Hung, UEH Deputy Director, the session featured distinguished speakers, including Prof. Lesly Goh, Fulbright Specialist; Prof. Karen Tagulao, Saint Joseph University, Macau; and Prof. Jiyong Eom, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). Over 150 participants, including students, experts, and leaders, attended.

Assoc. Prof. Bui Quang Hung shared UEH's vision for becoming a Multidisciplinary and Sustainable University by 2030. He emphasized the role of higher education in fostering sustainable skills among global citizens. UEH's efforts span various SDGs, including quality education (SDG 4), clean energy (SDG 7), climate action (SDG 13), and responsible consumption (SDG 12). He highlighted the university's integration of sustainable activities, significant waste reduction, and fostering a green campus culture.

Prof. Jiyong Eom emphasized the necessity of an interdisciplinary approach to achieve sustainability goals, particularly carbon neutrality. He stressed the importance of merging science, technology, policy, and finance to effectively address the climate crisis. "At KAIST, we engage in transdisciplinary research and education, combining science and technology with policy and finance. Our aim is to nurture core national talent capable of tackling the climate crisis and promoting green growth," Prof. Eom elaborated.

Contributions from Prof. Lesly Goh and Prof. Karen Tagulao further reinforced the importance of collaboration among universities, businesses, and stakeholders in addressing global challenges and forging a sustainable future.

The symposium served as a platform for exchanging innovative ideas and fostering partnerships, underscoring the global commitment to sustainability in higher education and beyond.
